Last week as I was reading my Facebook feed full of holiday parties and dance recitals, I stumbled across a beautiful picture of our youngest Sobella Wear Girl, Sofia, lifted up on one foot and on the stage all by herself. The caption posted by her father (and Sobella Wear’s fearless leader), Mario, read “Sofia’s 1st solo is in the books – Congratulations Princess”.
I was so happy for her and called her to hear all about it.
Sofia, at just 5 years old, is always dancing around the house whenever we get together for family gatherings. Every time you look over she usually has her leg in the air, proudly holding it straight up beside her body, balancing on one foot with a huge smile on her face. So it was no surprise that when I asked her about her solo over facetime, she proceeded to set the phone on an unstable shelf in her room and show me the dance to her fullest potential in the smallest of spaces.
She twirled, lifted herself up, and even did her infamous one-handed backbend which she had been practicing over and over the last time I saw her.
She had nailed it on the performance.
I was so impressed and excited for Sofia. She’s 5 years old and already has the work ethic, determination, and joy needed to reach her dreams.
As do all the girls in the Sobella Wear family, who have always impressed me with their style, tenacity and dedication to the art of dance. Credited to their amazing dance teachers, their parents, and their own belief in themselves. At the end of the day, that is what being a Sobella Wear Girl is about.
To every dancer/performer/actor/yogi/whatever-you-do, throughout the dreams you have and the ones you’ve already achieved, don’t ever lose those first moments of joy and amazement you had when first practicing your craft. It will carry you throughout the the good times and the hard times, reminding you of why you started this journey in the first place.
So enjoy your last few days of 2015, perform your heart out whether in front of an audience of people or a mirror in your gym. Give the rest of 2015 your all, I know you will because all of you are amazing, talented, and more than able to achieve whatever your heart desire’s.
